SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - It's officially April, and that means the South Bend Cubs are back in town.
The team arrived just after 4:30 p.m. Monday at Four Winds Field, coming straight from spring training in Arizona.
It'll be a different look for the Cubs this season with Buddy Bailey taking over as the team's skipper. Bailey's 40 years of experience should be an asset to the team, with only six returning players from last year.
NewsCenter 16 caught up with Bailey and one of the players about their expectations for this young team this year
"Everybody's excited to go. [We were in] Arizona for a month to get ready to play, and guys at the end are ready to get out of there, they've had enough. So, all of us are ready to be here and ready to play ball," Bailey said.
"We got a lot of young guys this time," second baseman Delvin Zinn said. "I think they are really eager and ready to go. Our guys are really trying to make a statement this year."
The South Bend Cubs season gets underway this Thursday night when they face the West Michigan WhiteCaps.
