CHICAGO (WNDU) - For the 10th straight year, the Notre Dame women’s basketball team is back in the Sweet 16, and their opponent is someone they are quite familiar with.
That’s because it’s a rematch of last year’s Sweet 16 between the Irish and the Texas A&M Aggies.
“They have some great game film on us,” Irish head coach Muffet McGraw said. “We just have everything the same for us where they have a little bit of a new roster. Two really good teams, back at it again.”
In 2018, Notre Dame trailed by as many as 13 points against A&M before the Blue and Gold stormed back to come out on top with the 90-84 win.
"They definitely know who we are and the type of basketball we play, since we played them last year, but we know who they are too,” Irish guard Jackie Young said. “It’s going to be a good game, just like it was last year.”
Notre Dame knows this A&M team has revenge on their mind, and the Irish are ready for the challenge.
“They are a physical team,” Irish forward Brianna Turner said. “It’s the SEC. It’s a physical style of play. They have a of other support, as well, so we are excited.”
Tip between the Irish and the Aggies is on Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT. You can catch the broadcast on ESPN 2.
