Montgomery enjoyed his rehab assignment at Four Winds Field

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Today we learned, Chicago Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery will be on the injured list a little bit longer. The Cubs told the media this morning that Montgomery will have a bullpen session today and will have another rehab assignment in the minors early next week.

At Four Winds Field on Wednesday, Montgomery threw two innings of shut out baseball while striking out four.

"It doesn't matter where you are at," Montgomery said. "You are always competing when you are out on the mound and it's really the fun part for me so it's just going forward to keep that mindset and get to Chicago and help them win some games."

It's unlikely Montgomery will be back in South Bend for a rehab start next week, due to the fact the team is on the road at the beginning of the week, but he says he loved his stay at Four Winds Field and is glad the ball park is so close to Chicago.

"I pitched back here in 2009 and, yeah, It's unbelievable, Montgomery said. "I know they have done some renovations and it's a little bit different than it was back then but yeah it was great and I enjoyed it and everyone treated me well."
