Davis Longyear is a rising senior at Lakeshore High School.

While many of his classmates are preparing for the SAT and applying to colleges, Davis is prepping for a different opportunity - playing Pebble Beach in September as part of the 2018 Pure Championship Impacting the First Tee.

"I'm really excited, and honestly, I didn't have too much of a reaction at first," Longyear said. "I was really shocked. Everyday just waking up, knowing that I'm going to get to play Pebble Beach this September, it's just a dream come true. It's something that I've always wanted to do my whole life, and I'm really excited about it."

Not only will he get to play the course that has hosted six major championships, he'll also get to do so alongside a PGA Tour Champions player.

"That's going to be a really cool experience because I'll get to take in some of the stuff that they use in their golf game everyday and implement that in my game," Longyear said. "That's really special."

The Lancer rising senior earned the opportunity through the First Tee, a junior golf program he has been apart of in Benton Harbor for the last seven years.

He had to apply to play in the Pure Championship, an application that considered not only his golf skills, but also his character.

"There's only so many people that can really expand the game of golf, and that's what the First Tee tries to do," Longyear said. "They try to get new people into the game. It's part of my responsibility to help young kids enjoy the game more."

After all the opportunities the First Tee has provided him, Davis hopes to pass that on to the next generation of junior golfers.

"They've given so much to me over the course of the years, whether it's through helping me with my game or just giving me opportunities to just come out and play this golf course," Longyear said. "So recently I've just been trying to give back to the program as much as I possibly can."

Longyear is one of 81 junior golfers chosen nationwide to take part in the tournament.

The 2018 Pure Championship Impacting the First Tee takes place September 24th-30th at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hill Golf Course in California.
