SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Since today is December 23rd, we're going to take look at number 23 in the program - Irish linebacker Drue Tranquil.
This year couldn't be going any better for the two-time captain.
He's led the Irish to a College Football playoff berth and is well on his way to being selected in the NFL draft.
But as good as this year has been for Tranquill on the field, it might be going better off of it.
Tranquill married his wife and high school sweet heart Jackie back in July and earlier this month the couple announced they are expecting a child.
The 23-year-old Tranquill says this year is by far one of the best of his life.
"It's my Jordan year man, 23," Tranquill said. "It's got to be up there as one of the top. Oh man it was a shock at first. I just kinda sat there speechless and the next day I was just elated and super excited. My biggest dream in life is to be a Dad and a husband and to know I'm going to have that shot so early on is special."
What would make it even more special...is if Notre Dame would be playing for a national championship.
Standing in Notre Dame and Tranquill's way is the Clemson Tigers. They'll play in the Cotton Bowl this Saturday at 4 PM on ESPN.
