Irish hoops trying to get over 'last hurdle'

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - While the Irish women's basketball team has been on a roll, you can't say the same thing for the Notre Dame men.

The Irish are tied for last place in the ACC and have lost three games in a row. However, the Irish believe they are close to flipping the switch.

During Notre Dame's three game losing skid, the Irish have lost by a combined 12 total points.

"That last hurdle is really a big one for us to get over but we've got to keep trying and keep swinging," Irish head coach Mike Brey said.

Close might not be good enough for Notre Dame but they feel the tides are about to turn.

"We're just not going to randomly jump over a hurdle," Irish guard TJ Gibbs said. "We have to look deep down in ourselves and figure out why we're not there yet. I think this team is really close and it's going to be a tell tale sign [this weekend]. We have a lot of basketball to play and we're learning and it's coming and we know it. We're ready to swing. We're just going to keep rolling with the punches."

The Irish play No. 3 Virginia this Saturday at Purcell Pavilion at 1 PM. The game broadcast will be on CBS.
