Irish hockey freshmen to experience first single--elimination weekend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame hockey team is gearing up for another big weekend at Compton as the Irish get ready to face Minnesota on home ice.

The semi-final this weekend is a lot different than the quarterfinals this past weekend. That's because instead of a best of three game series, it's a one game, win or go home contest.

The Notre Dame freshmen have never played in a single elimination game at the collegiate level and the upper class men have been preparing them for the big game on Saturday.

"A lot of people have been saying we have a young team but we are very experienced at this time of the year," Irish junior defenseman Tory Dello said. "I think it is really important for us to communicate to the freshman what the [games] are all about and how they're working. You are going to face adversity every game like last year. We had the mentality that we were never out of a game. We were always going to come back. We were very even keel last year and I think that's very important to talk to the freshmen and pass that message along to them. I think they've done a good job so far."

Puck drop between Notre Dame and Minnesota is on Saturday at 7 PM. If you aren't going to the game, you can watch it on Big Ten Network.
