Irish guard Rex Pflueger will return for fifth season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Head coach Mike Brey announced after Saturday's game against Syracuse that guard Rex Pflueger will return for his fifth season next year. Brey and Plueger reached that conclusion on Friday.

The Irish captain tore his ACL against Purdue back on December 15th but didn't play in enough games to lose a year of eligibility.

Brey is pumped to have Pflueger back for another year in South Bend.

"I'm thrilled," Brey said. "I was sitting at dinner last night with the team after he and I talked and I looked over and I said 'My god the whole team comes back.' I don't know if that happens in college basketball with the whole team coming back.

He needs us and we need him. We're committed to him and it'll be neat to have him around. Obviously, he's a neat personality and he's been a big time winner. All hands on deck. Let's get everybody back and we'll figure out how to play everybody next year."

Pflueger will enroll in an accelerated MBA program just like former Irish basketball players Tim Abromaitis and Joey Brooks.
