Irish guard Jackie Young steps up her game in the NCAA Tournament

TAMPA BAY (WNDU) - Irish guard Jackie Young has stepped up her game big time in the tournament and she’s a big reason why Notre Dame is here in Tampa for the Final Four.

In Monday’s Elite Eight Game with Stanford, Notre Dame trailed by nine points early in the second half but then Jackie Young went on a second half surge, scoring 19 of her game high 25 points after the break.

This hasn’t been anything new for Young as she was three assists shy of a triple double in the Round of 32 win over Michigan State

The key to her tournament success so far? Young says is all about being assertive when she gets the rock.

“I definitely think it’s about being aggressive, "Young said. "Early on in the Stanford game, the shots we would normally make, we were just missing them and I think in the second half we had the same mindset. We knew our shots were going to fall. That’s going to end up happening. I think basketball is a game of runs and I think you are confident sometimes. Sometimes you are sometimes you aren’t. So I think just trying to keep the aggressive mindset.”

Young has been playing so well that she is projected to go as high as fifth overall in WNBA Mock Drafts. T

This weekend she will have to make a decision on whether or not to declare. 24 hours after Notre Dame’s final game of the season, whether that be tomorrow night or on Sunday, Young will make a decision on whether to forgo her senior season or come back to South Bend for one last ride.
