SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame hockey team advanced to the Big 10 tournament semi-final this Saturday after sweeping Michigan State last weekend..
The Spartans scored zero goals against the Irish and a lot of that was due to the stellar play of Notre Dame goal tender Cale Morris.
The Irish goal keeper stopped all 55 shots he faced over the weekend and earned the NCAA's First Star of the Week.
Notre Dame hockey coach Jeff Jackson says Morris' play is crucial to their success throughout the remainder of the postseason.
"He's got his game going," Jackson said. "He's playing at an optimal level right now and we're going to need him to because Minnesota's got good scoring forwards and a good power play. We're going to have to have great defensive play and goal tending. Goal tending is always the key in the playoffs. That and special teams are generally the difference."
Morris and the Irish take the ice with the Gophers Saturday Night at Compton Ice Arena.
Puck drop is set for 7 PM and you can catch the game on the Big Ten Network.
