TAMPA BAY (WNDU) - Irish forwards Jessica Shepard and Brianna Turner have been tearing it up in the NCAA Tournament.
“It’s exciting," Shepard said. "I think [Turner] and I have grown a lot over this year. I think learning how to pass and where to catch the ball it’s been a lot of fun."
Combined, the twin towers are averaging 33.75 points per game and 20.25 rebounds per game in the tourney.
Of course, that’s what happens when you have Shepard, a third team all-american, and Turner, the ACC defensive player of the year, on the same team.
"They’re two All-American posts so it’s a luxury having them on the court defense wise and for offense," Irish guard Arike Ogunbowale said. "They know how to run the floor so they are a great asset to the team.”
When those two are clicking, they say they are almost unstoppable on the floor. The Irish forwards say they compliment each others game and believe they have hit their peak at the perfect time.
"It’s really exciting to play with [Shepard]," Turner said. "She’s honestly the strongest person I know and I’m not exaggerating. She’s such a great passer. She’s such a great shooter. She’s such a great facilitator so it’s really awesome to have someone like that on your side."
Hard to believe that this is only their first year playing together.
Now, against UConn earlier in the season, Shepard and Turner combined for 23 points. The twin towers hope they can do some more damage tonight against the Huskies with a berth in the National Championship on the line.
