SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The No. 1 Irish tip off their NCAA Tournament run tomorrow morning against the 16 seed Bethune-Cookman. While a No. 1 seed taking on the No. 16 seed might not be the most enticing match up, it's a game Irish forward Brianna Turner has been looking forward to all season.
That's because Turner was unable to play in last year's title run after she tore her ACL in the NCAA Tournament back in 2017.
"It's really exciting to get [Turner] back," Irish guard Arike Ogunbowale said. "She really can do everything and that's something that we need. She's really a big part of our team and our transition. She gets the rebounds and she's really a big part."
And now, Turner has returned back to the big dance.
"It's been so fun to watch [Turner] and see how she's playing the best basketball of her career especially the last seven or eight games," Irish head coach Muffet McGraw said. "She's really been doing great things. She's really been a great defensive presence for us all season long and you can tell today that she had a real big bounce in her step. She's excited to be back in the NCAA tournament after taking a year off and I know that she's excited she stayed and has this opportunity."
While Turner was glad to see her teammates win the national championship last season, she's thrilled for the opportunity to help them win it all this year.
"I put last year in the back of my head," Turner said. "It's a new year. New season. New preparation so I'm excited to play tomorrow."
Turner and the Irish tip off tomorrow at 11 AM. You can catch the broadcast on ESPN 2.
