Irish DL Jerry Tillery earns game ball after four-sack performance
The Fighting Irish defense dominated yet again in Notre Dame's 38-17 win over Stanford - and the man leading the charge was defensive lineman Jerry Tillery.
The defensive lineman finished the game with four sacks - that ties the school record for sacks in a game.
After the four-sack performance, Coach Brian Kelly awarded Tillery the game ball.
"You can't block him one-on-one," Kelly said. "He showed that today. He wanted to develop a pass rush that would really take off and I think he's done a great job there."
However, that wasn't the only honor Tillery received last night.
He was also named this week's Walter Camp National FBS Defensive Player of the Week.
Tillery likes all the accolades but says the defense has plenty of room for improvement.
"We were out of our gaps a lot," Tillery said. "We had some busts on defense where we weren't doing what we needed to be doing so it was not a perfect game by any means. We did enough and we got the win."
