BUCHANAN, Mich. (WNDU) - Motocross fans are geared up for an international competition held at RedBud this weekend.
It’s the 72nd running of Motocross of Nations and it’s right here in Michiana this year.
“We’re just hardcore American fans and when we found out it was going to be held here, we decided we were going to build a bus,” said Jordan Johns, a fan.
Johns and his friends built onto a bus and decorated it to show their excitement for Team USA in this year’s Motocross of Nations.
“United States of America winning Motocross of Nations, baby!” Johns and his friends cheered.
40 nations from across the world are represented by three of their best riders at RedBud this weekend.
“It’s the best event of the year for us,” said rider Tommy Searle, with the U.K. “It’s great, obviously, to represent my country and do it proudly.”
“My team of Venezuela, they have never qualified to race a final on Sunday, so that’s a big goal for us,” rider Anthony Rodriguez said. “All of us are really motivated to make it for the first time to write it in the books for Venezuelan history.”
Though the weather has been rainy, riders and fans alike say that won’t stop them.
“The weather’s obviously not looking so great this weekend, but I’m from England, so we can deal with that,” Searle said. “I think the track looks great and I think it can hold the rain, so either way I think it’s going to be a great weekend.”
“This is the first, what, only second, third time this event has ever been held in the United States?” Johns said. “Rain or shine, it’s going to be awesome.”
“RedBud! Let’s do it,” Rodriguez said.
Well-known rider Travis Pastrana will race on a team representing Puerto Rico to raise funds for Puerto Rico's recovery from Hurricane Maria.
