Former Notre Dame basketball player now Harlem Globetrotter

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (WNDU) - Lili "Champ" Thompson has some serious game. The former Notre Dame point guard-turned-Harlem Globetrotter is returning to Purcell Pavilion Saturday, this time playing for a different team.

"It is nostalgic," Thompson said. "We put in so many hours and so much time on this court, the only bad thing about being back is it's super cold outside again."

Lili isn't just another Harlem Globetrotter; she's a part of history.

"In our 93-year history, there have been less than 20 women on the Globetrotters," Thompson said. "It's really special to be a small part of that history. I think going into the arena with all the fans, you see little girls and boys all over who are excited, who feel like they have someone to look up to, that's what makes it really special."

Thompson said this week's performance will be one fit for all ages.

"In all our history, this is the most interaction we've ever had and we've been around for 93 years," Thompson said. "This year, we're taking it to another level. From the youngest to the oldest person in the crowd, everyone will have fun."
