On Wednesday, we presented Concord High School with the 16 Spirit School of the Year Award in an school wide assembly that showed just why the Minutemen were the most spirited school all season long on Friday Night Football.

The Minutemen edged out Edwardsburg in an unbelievable online vote that featured 7,325 ballots cast. Concord won by just 114 total votes.

The Minutemen finished with 2,398 votes (32.74%) while Edwardsburg finished with 2,284 votes (31.18%) but the battle was even closer than that.

The last hour of the race between Concord and Edwardsburg was incredible with both schools trading the lead back and forth until the Minutemen pulled ahead for good in the last 20 minutes. Polls opened up Friday and closed at Noon on Monday.

On Wednesday, we presented Concord with a plaque and check for $100 from Monteith’s Best One for showing the most school spirit all season long on Friday Night Football. The Minutemen won the 1st weekly 16 Spirit Award back in August while Edwardsburg won the final weekly 16 Spirit Award last week.

Five weekly winners were nominated Friday night for the 16 Spirit School of the Year. 2013 and 2014 Spirit School of the Year New Prairie finished 3rd with 20.27% of the vote. The Cougars were in dead heat with Concord and Edwardsburg as of Sunday night before the Minutemen and Eddies pulled away Monday morning. Adams finished with 10.24% of the vote while Lakeshore had 5.57%.

Only one vote per IP address is allowed, so students, teachers and administrators were encouraging friends and family to vote as well during a frantic pace on Monday.

At Concord, teachers even incorporated the 16 Spirit Award voting into math class, asking kids to figure out the exact amount of votes separating schools based on the percentage each school had and the total votes cast.

Concord opens up post-season play Friday night in the 5A Sectional Semifinals when they go on the road to face Fort Wayne Snider. Undefeated Edwardsburg opens up the district playoffs Friday when they host Hamilton.
