MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana's 2nd District stopped by a Mishawaka elementary school following a letter-writing campaign by fifth- and sixth-graders.
The letters were part of the annual Public Schools Week back in March. The students at LaSalle and Hums elementary schools wrote letters to lawmakers, inviting them to visit their schools and find out why they should support public education.
One of the students talked to NewsCenter 16, saying it was cool to see a congresswoman at his school.
"We got to meet someone that helps us in government in Washington, D.C., so that was pretty cool," sixth-grader Jackson Snyder said.
Walorski went on to say the story that needs to be told in this country is that each educated student makes a lasting impact.
