UPDATE: Victim named in fatal semi accident

LAPORTE COUNTY - A truck driver, who lost his life in a fiery crash on the Indiana Toll Road Monday afternoon, has been identified as 36-year-old Kwame Lawson.

At around 4:15 p.m., a 2011 Kenworth semi, driven Orville McDougall, 38, of Riviera Beach, Florida, was pulling a box trailer loaded with brownies, in the right lane east bound on the Indiana Toll Road at the 42 mile marker when it was hit from behind.

A second semi, driven by Lawson, failed to slow down/stop and ran into the rear of McDougall’s trailer. Lawson's semi caught fire and became engulfed, trapping him inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the La Porte County Coroner.

Coroner John Sullivan says Lawson died from blunt force trauma and thermal burns.

Officials say upon impact, there was an explosion.

McDougall was sent to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
