Trial date set for former school treasurer accused of embezzling $230K

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) – A trial date has been set for an Eau Claire woman accused of embezzling nearly $230,000 from a Berrien Springs school.

Fifty-year-old Sarah Jane Kurtz faces an April 30 trial on a felony charge of embezzlement of more than $100,000, according to our reporting partners at The Herald-Palladium.

The alleged embezzlement took place over an eight-year period from 2011 to 2018 when Kurtz was the secretary and treasurer at Village Adventist Elementary School.

She will be in court prior to the trial for case conferences on March 15 and April 22.

If convicted, Kurtz faces a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison
