Saturday is National Sandwich Day!

A time to celebrate all the delicious possibilities you can create with two pieces of bread and something in the middle.

While meats and fillers have been eaten with bread since ancient times, the sandwich is believed to be named after John Montagu - the fourth Earl of Sandwich - who lived during the 1700s.

He was supposedly fond of gambling, and wanted a meal that could be eaten with one hand and no utensils, so it didn't interfere with his game.

Today, the sandwich has become an art form in itself and is one of America’s most popular lunch items.

So enjoy a delicious sandwich and celebrate National Sandwich Day!
