St. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) Today the St. Joe County commissioners voted to do a study on what it would take to build the overpass.
The proposed plan would be at the railroad crossing between Fir Road and Capital Avenue.
With the new overpass, the county hopes to ease traffic backups in the area and create an easier, connected community.
"We want really make a good traffic corridor from Capital Avenue all the way over to the hospital and to the commercial corridor on Grape Road. So we just think this is a very needed piece to improve mobility out in that part of the county," St. Joe County Economic Development Executive Director Bill Schalliol said.
The study results should be released by August 3rd.
After that, the county will work to get federal funding to pay for the overpass.
Construction would not begin until 2021.
