UPDATE: Zachary Sanders will appear in court this week. He faces a charge of manslaughter.

Police arrested 20-year-old Zachary Sanders for the death of Troy Mapes, 16, in a hit-and-run accident in Crawford Park on Friday night.

One neighbor says he heard an argument and then caught a glimpse of the mini-van leaving the park.

"There was a screeching loud noise, saw the car go through the park, we didn't know what happened," says Antonio Guidi. "You don't want to believe a kid got hit by a vehicle or anything like that, but when I saw the kid running to the neighbor's house, I knew something wasn't right," he says.

Sanders has been charged with Voluntary Manslaughter and is being held at St. Joseph County jail.

A teenage boy is dead after a hit-and-run accident in a Mishawaka park.

Family of Troy Mapes, 16, confirms he was killed after being struck by a minivan at the park.

His mother posted on social media this morning urging anyone with information to come forward: "I was with my 16 yrs old as his heart stopped beating ,they need pay for this, please share show what beautiful young boy they took from his family."

The incident happened around 10:40 p.m. Friday at Crawford Park, located in the 1000 block of East Mishawaka Avenue. Police say four teens were in the park when a minivan drove through, striking one of the teens.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital.

St. Joseph County Coroner Chuck Hurley says the teen passed away Saturday morning at 1:39 am.

Dispatchers say St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
