SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Local teachers got together with members of the community for a special breakfast at Century Center Tuesday morning.

It was part of the South Bend Education Foundation's Great Friends of Schools program. NewsCenter 16's own Tricia Sloma served as emcee of the event.

South Bend Community School Corporation officials say they believe in public education and they're glad businesses and organizations in the community do too.

"We really believe the community should be and is invested, and we want to make sure they know about our good stories with the schools and things that are going on that are positive that our children are learning and the wonderful things our teachers and principals are doing," foundation President Dr. Gina Shropshire.

The education foundation presented $25,000 in teacher and principal grants to South Bend educators.
