ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (WNDU) - The suspects accused of killing a Berrien County Army sergeant made an appearance in court Wednesday.
Kemia Hassel and Jeremy Cuellar are both charged with premeditated murder. Officials say the two lovers plotted to kill Kemia's husband, Sgt. Tyrone Hassel III, for his life insurance policy.
Cuellar allegedly shot and killed Tyrone outside his parent's home on New Year's Eve after Kemia lured him to his death.
Both suspects were active in the U.S. Army at the time of the murder.
They will have joint court exam hearings next Wednesday at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph. It's possible witnesses will be called to testify.
