Suspect in deadly South Bend hit-and-run appears in court

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - One of the two suspects accused in a deadly hit-and-run in South Bend appeared in court Tuesday.

Nineteen-year-old Ashlee Nicely, along with 22-year-old Carlos Williams, is accused of hitting a bicyclist on Brick Road last October. Nicely was also charged with one count of assisting a criminal.

The couple took off, and the victim, 61-year-old Ishayaa Diya, died at the scene.

Both Nicely and Williams have pleaded not guilty.

Nicely will be back in court for a status conference on May 15. Williams' jury trial is set for May 28.

Williams will be back in court for a pretrial conference on May 14.
