South Bend school hosts annual international food fair
Some kids helped serve up some good eats at the international food fair.
The event was held at the South Bend Junior Academy where several countries were represented, including Ireland, Japan and even Jamaica.
Children and teachers say the event is not just about eating, but providing a healthy dose of education about other countries, through their food.
"This is like to help the school with fundraisers and all that. It helps more children to come to this school if their parents don't have enough money to pay for it," says 7th grade student Husain Alshawi.
"Kids get to learn about other countries first hand, they get to meet people from other countries, they find out about the culture that they will only learn about from a book. And so they really get enmeshed in that country and their traditions," says Principal Thomas Huntress.
This is the 10th year the school has held this international showcase of some delicious eats.
