Most jobs require training to stay on top of the most recent technologies, and firefighting is no exception.

This morning, the South Bend Public Transportation Corporation conducted compressed natural gas, or CNG, training with the South Bend Fire Department.

Training helps familiarize first responders with the upgrades to Transpo's facility, and gives them valuable information about the new natural gas buses.

"With these new buses running all over the city, where the tanks are," Edwin Meyer, captain South Bend Fire Department, said. "And if there's a way we can shut the fuel off in case of a fire in one of the buses, the area that we have to worry about the most which is the tanks for the CNG is."

With the knowledge they gained today, firefighters are now better prepared to deal with emergency situations involving those new buses.
