ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - If you're tired of getting a massive energy bill every month, the Elkhart Environmental Center has some tips on lowering that bill while saving energy.
Purchasing a programmable thermostat can save you $150 a year. You can program the thermostat to lower energy during the day while you’re at work, and have it turn back on when you get home.
Switching to LED lights is another great energy saver. They last about 9 years and only use a third of the energy incandescent lights use.
Insulating your home and using weather strips under your doors can prevent the heat from escaping your home, thus lowering your heating cost.
Purchasing power monitors can help you see exactly how much energy is being used in your home each day.
“With climate change and those issues affecting us some generation has to impact and change their ways,” said Elkhart Environmental Center Supervisor Jamison Czarnecki. “And these are really smart, easy solutions to something that is much bigger than ourselves."
