SWAT called to Mishawaka home; 1 arrested
A Mishawaka SWAT situation ended peacefully just before noon Thursday.
It all unfolded in the 500 block of Burdette Street near Milburn.
Several schools were locked down as a precaution, including LaSalle Elementary and Marian High School.
Police tell us they tried to serve a search warrant at the house around 9:30 a.m., but the people inside wouldn't come out.
Officers believed there were weapons inside, so the county SWAT team was activated.
Police evacuated other homes on the block and eventually got three people to leave the surrounded home around 11:40 a.m.
One person was taken into custody and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary charges of burglary. Police have not publicly identified that person.
The other two people were released at the scene and are not suspects, police say. One of them was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The search warrant was served, and stolen property was recovered from inside the house, according to Mishawaka police.
