LAS VEGAS (WNDU) – Former Notre Dame and NFL running back Cierre Wood now faces murder charges in the death of a 5-year-old girl.
KLAS-TV reports Las Vegas police arrested the 28-year-old Wood on Wednesday and added the murder charge Thursday. He originally was charged with first-degree child abuse and neglect.
The Clark County Coroner's Office says 5-year-old La-Rayah Davis died as a result of child abuse.
Police also have charged Amy Taylor with child abuse and neglect.
KVVU reports that Taylor is Wood's girlfriend, and that the 5-year-old was her daughter.
Wood's final season playing for Notre Dame was 2012. He went on to play for the Texans, Patriots and Bills. He also was signed by the Seahawks, although he never saw action in Seattle, and most recently spent time in the Canadian Football League.
