SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Jefferson Place Building in the 300 block of West Jefferson Boulevard has been empty for about two years since the Family and Children's Center moved out.

Cressy Commercial Real Estate recently bought the building and plans to make $1.4 million worth of improvements.

Cressy has already lined up a tenant for the first floor that will bring 40 jobs downtown.

"The first floor is partially a consolidation locally, and partially some new jobs from outside of South Bend," Corey Cressy said. "… It's a 25,000-square-foot building. The first floor, we have a tenant lined up, so half the building, 12,500 square feet. The second floor is vacant. We'll get that on the market."

The South Bend Redevelopment Commission pledged to contribute $200,000 toward the project.
