A Purdue student with terminal cancer who captured the hearts of many across the nation has reportedly passed away.
The family of 20-year-old Tyler Trent confirmed his death on Tuesday, according to the IndyStar
The Purdue super fan became an unlikely sports hero after the Boilermakers football team upset the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 49-20 on Oct. 20.
He was the subject of several ESPN features, and was named an honorary team captain for the Old Oaken Bucket game on Nov. 24. Purdue's 28-21 victory over the Hoosiers clinched a bowl game berth for the Boilermakers.
Tyler also received the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor for Indiana civilians.
