WINAMAC, Ind. (WNDU) The Pulaski County Courthouse in Winamac was evacuated and closed Friday morning after the 911 center was called about a "suspicious device" being found by maintenance.
According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a suspicious device was found in a bathroom, but it was not an explosive.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said in a release issued Friday afternoon that maintenance personnel found the device around 6:30 a.m. in a basement restroom. It was concealed, not in the open.
The ATF and the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, or EOD, investigated. They determined there was no threat, verbal or written, and the device itself was not explosive or incendiary.
They have classified the device as a hoax.
No further devices were found during a sweep of other county buildings by the ISP team.
The courthouse and all other county offices are expected to reopen Monday.
