Proposed ice skating pavillion in Goshen receives million dollar grant

GOSHEN, Ind. (WNDU) - The Community Foundation of Elkhart County is giving a million dollars in grant money to an ice skating pavilion project, which will be built next to the Mill Race trail, south of Washington Street.

The grant pushes the city's funds to about halfway towards the $6 million needed for the pavilion, which will be a public skating rink in the winter and hold other community gatherings, classes, and outdoor activities in the summer.

“There's a lot of excitement for this project,” said Mark Brinson, the Goshen Community Development Director. “People have been talking about an ice rink for two decades. There's really no place in Goshen to go ice skating, so it's something that the community is ready for."

The city is hoping to complete the funding with private donations rather than a city fundraiser, because they don't want to compete with other organizations to raise money.
