(NBC) - The cost of tomatoes imported from Mexico is expected to increase due to a new 17.5 percent tariff imposed this week.

The move follows the termination of a 22-year agreement between U.S. and Mexican growers that could lead to shortages and price hikes.

Consumers could see increases of up to 85 percent on tomatoes between now and this winter, according to experts.
