Police warn against drunk driving as St. Patrick's Day approaches

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - St. Patrick’s Day is Sunday, which means parades, parties and plenty of celebrating.

But with all the fun comes dangers on the road, whether you plan on drinking or not.

Police are reminding drivers that buzzed driving is drunk driving. And even though you may feel okay enough to drive, it's better to get a ride home instead of risking your life and someone else's.

Lieutenant Tim Williams of the Mishawaka Police Department says police will be out in full force this weekend, but he's hoping they won't have to make any stops.

"When you go out, we're going to ask that you be responsible,” said Williams. “Make that decision before you even leave the house, that you're going to use a designated driver or you're just going to pass the keys and take an Uber, Lyft or taxi home."

Lt. Williams also says the legal consequences of getting pulled over while under the influence can be a permanent scar on your record.
