ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in Elkhart.
18-year-old Jarrod Spigutz ,of Bristol, Indiana, was arrested for murder, possession of Marijuana and possession of a handgun without a permit.
The shooting happened Sunday night in the 600 block of E. Windsor
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Jared Foltz. Police found him in his Jeep in the Menard's parking lot.
"We believe this to be an isolated and a targeted type of incident," Elkhart Police Department Sergeant Chris Snyder said. "And we don't believe that anyone else in the public should be in danger."
That said, it's still not comforting to know a store you shop at just had a murder outside. It didn't stop the Memorial day crowds.
"Obviously, it makes me feel a little nervous having kids here and stuff," Shopper Stephanie Acosta said. "But I still feel okay coming here."
It's always important to be aware of your surroundings and take safe measures when you are out at the store.
"I'd probably lock my doors and I might leave at that point," Acosta said. "I do get a little nervous about that- somebody approaching us."
Luckily, in Elkhart, these shooting are rare.
It's almost halfway through the year, this is the first homicide to come out of the city with a heart.
"Last year, I think we had 2 pretty close to this time," Snyder said. "And then we had several over the summer and into the fall."
Last year, Elkhart saw 16 homicides. That's on the high end for the city.
The general manager of the Menards says there won't be a statement or press conference on the incident.
