SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) --- Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident near the Linebacker Lounge in South Bend. It happened on South Bend Avenue, just southwest of the intersection with Edison.
Investigators say around 2 a.m. Sunday, 27-year-old Hannah Turgeon was hit as she crossed South Bend Avenue. The Denver resident was taken to Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
On Monday, University of Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., confirmed Turgeon was a 2014 graduate.
"I just want to express my condolences to the family for this tragic death of Hannah. So, we'll keep her in our prayers," Jenkins said.
Police say an SUV struck Turgeon and failed to stop after hitting her. Witness accounts say the SUV could be dark in color and be a larger model.
The collision happened just hours after the final whistle blew at the Notre Dame football game. The Linebacker Lounge is located near the stadium.
A Colorado political website cites Turgeon's boss as saying, "She was one of the most kind, giving and sweet people you could ever hope to meet."
A Notre Dame student told 16 News Now, "I will say that everyone loved Hannah, that she was a ray of light, always smiling, always had a kind word to say. I loved being around her whenever I saw her, and I know she'll be missed greatly."
