The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office is investigating a single-vehicle crash that proved fatal Tuesday afternoon.

Police identified the driver who was killed in the crash Wednesday afternoon as 18-year-old Brandon Biolette, of New Buffalo.

LaPorte County Coroner Bob Cutler also determined the teen's cause of death to be blunt force trauma.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. CST in Galena Township along County Road 1000 North, east of Beverly Lane.

When police arrived, the vehicle "was fully engulfed in flames," according to a release from the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office. After personnel from the Kankakee Fire Department extinguished the flames, they found the driver had been trapped inside and killed.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle, a Kia, was headed east on 1000 North when it veered off the road and hit a large tree. Investigators believe the car caught fire on impact with the tree.

After hitting the tree and catching fire, police say the Kia continued traveling south through a livestock fence before stopping in a pasture.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the crash and was still on scene Tuesday afternoon. The LaPorte County Coroner's Office is also on the scene and is working to identify the driver killed in the crash.
