SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The 33rd annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. service breakfast and day of celebration kicked off at the Century Center in South Bend on Monday.
Festivities included a memorial march, workshops, exhibits and a celebration concert.
Event organizers say it's important for everyone to remember King, especially younger generations.
"As time passes, we forget people," chairperson Gladys Muhammad said. "And we don't want anyone to ever forget that Dr. Martin Luther King was a drum major for justice. And that he lived his life and lost his life as a result of struggling for freedom and change for everybody."
