NEW BUFFALO, Mich. A petition to recall the New Buffalo Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem is moving forward.

The Berrien County Election Commission voted to accept the petition on Monday.

Ray Kirkus wrote the petition and is hoping to recall both Mayor Lou O’Donnell and Mayor Pro-Tem John Peterson for the use of legal fees.

Kirkus has 180 days to get signatures from at least 25 percent of New Buffalo voters, but the mayor can appeal Monday’s decision.
