PENN TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WNDU) - The Penn Township Fire Department has some new lifesaving equipment thanks to a special grant.
It's all thanks to subs: The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awarded more than $4,500 to the fire department, allowing them to purchase new water-rescue equipment.
It will allow Penn Township first responders to perform faster flood, ice and river rescues.
"Our budget is kind of thin," Battalion Chief Al Kirsits said. "A lot of it goes toward manpower and the equipment on the trucks. But this is important equipment that, when you need it, you need it. And Firehouse Subs provided us with the donation to allow us to purchase this."
It's easy to donate. Every time you eat at Firehouse Subs, you can round up your bill or buy a pickle bucket.
