COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WNDU) - The Palisades nuclear power plant in Van Buren County will have a new owner in 2022.

The plant is slated to shut down that year, our reporting partners at The Herald-Palladium say.

And after it closes, the current owner, Entergy, will sell the plant to Holtec International for accelerated decommissioning.

Entergy's chairman says the sale will allow the site to return to productive use sooner than if the company were still to own it.

Holtec is also buying Entergy's Pilgrim nuclear station in Massachusetts.
