Generators

Due to the extent of damage, many poles, cross arms, power lines and other service equipment must be replaced. In many cases, prior to that work being completed, fallen tree limbs must be removed.

I&M understands the frustration of being without power, especially when temperatures are so warm. Our employees are dedicated to getting the lights back on as quickly and safely as possible.

Restoration times will be sent as soon as they become available.

UPDATE (7:07pm):

Strong thunderstorms that moved through southwest Michigan and the South Bend area Monday afternoon blew numerous trees, limbs and branches into power lines throughout the area, causing loss of power to more than 31,000 customers.

Crews are busy assessing damage that caused more than 1,300 separate outages in those areas, and I&M is marshalling crews from outside the region to the hard-hit areas to the north. Given the extent of the outages, numerous customers are expected to remain without service throughout the night, and possibly for an extended period.

Estimated times of restoration for remaining customers are expected to be announced Tuesday. Customers are encouraged to sign up for I&M On The Go Mobile Alerts at www.indianamichiganpower.com/alerts

The Fort Wayne area was largely spared from damage, with only about 500 customers affected.
