ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - An off-duty officer for the Elkhart Police Department has been arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police were dispatched to 3rd and Franklin streets on Tuesday at 2:34 p.m. in regards to a property damage collision involving two vehicles.
Police say the driver of one of the vehicles appeared to be impaired. Police performed a field sobriety test and drug recognition exam.
The driver, identified as 41-year-old Corporal Scott Haigh of the Elkhart Police Department, failed the test and was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, which is a Class A misdemeanor.
Haigh was hired by the Elkhart Police Department in 2009.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene at about 3:41 p.m. to assist with the investigation, according to a release from the sheriff's department issued Wednesday.
Sheriff's deputies reportedly were the ones who administered field sobriety tests, including a drug recognition evaluation and a certified blood test. Toxicology results remain pending.
Police sent information from the investigation to the Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office for further evaluation.
