MISHAWAKA, Ind. In February of 2015, the Notre Dame community lost a true legend when former university president Father Ted Hesburgh died at the age of 97.
For more than half a century, Notre Dame professor and author Bob Schmuhl got to know Father Ted through a series of interviews from the 1960's through 2014.
A week ago, Schmuhl released a biography called "Fifty Years With Father Hesburgh: On and Off the Record."
Father Ted was influential in many areas, including higher education, civil rights, and the Catholic Church. That's why Schmuhl says his book is as much a reference as it is a story.
Schmuhl said, "Some of his words - some of the statements he made during the interviews - should have been…preserved. Future writers, historians, might be able to find some value to them."
On Friday night, Schmuhl was at University Park Mall for a book signing.
