SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - It was not the championship ending fans imagined after Notre Dame lost in heartbreaking fashion to Baylor on Sunday.
Hundreds of fans poured into Notre Dame's Duncan Student Center for a watch party and to hopefully watch their lady Irish win back-to-back titles. The only problem is...they lost.
"It was good to see them comeback and to have a chance to win, but it was not the outcome we were looking for," one fan said.
This team, known for their fourth quarter heroics, felt like they had one last comeback in them but unfortunately, we all know how this one ended – in defeat.
Despite what may be one of the most heartbreaking losses to end a season for Notre Dame, Irish fans aren’t looking down on their Irish team; they are looking up.
"“It’s heartbreaking. You want it for the students and they were playing their butts off. You know it hurts but we know they’ll be back on campus and everyone will cheer them when they get home," another fan said.
One thing that Irish fans will never forget about this group is their ability to put the "fight" in "fighting Irish."
The lady Irish are expected to be back on campus this week. When? We still don’t know but when we do, we will be the first to let you know.
