Muffet McGraw started her college coaching career at Lehigh, winning 88 games in five seasons. Sunday, she faced her former school, looking for her 812th win at Notre Dame and her 900th overall.
“It’s always been about the team and Notre Dame but it’s definitely a fun moment to have,” McGraw said post-game.
McGraw becomes only the ninth women’s basketball coach ever to reach 900 wins and the fourth quickest to reach the milestone in Division I history.
Fortunately for McGraw, the road does not stop here. In fact, her team says 900 is great but it won’t be very long until win number 1000 comes around.
“I was here for 800. I’m here for 900 and hope I can come back and be here when she gets a thousand,” 6’3” forward Briana Turner said.
Along with her 2 national titles, 8 final fours, and now 900 wins, McGraw can finally get back to focusing on what she does best…winning.
“I think it is just so fun to look back at those first teams and think of the players we had then and know how blessed I am to be in this position,” McGraw said.
