The Mishawaka Police Department debuted its new kid-print ID program at Summerfest on Saturday afternoon, creating scanning ID’s for kids that feature a photo, fingerprint scan and address information.

Mishawaka PD will use the new program at public events to address concerns about wandering and missing children.

“There’s nothing better than keeping the safety of your child, because as much a we can trust our children to make the right decision, we can't always trust other people. Just having that extra sense of security when we're out if something happens, that's one extra security blanket to keep him safe,” said Julie Stone, a parent who was in attendance.

The police department was able to get the ID kit through a grant and public donations from Lexus of Mishawaka.
