SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Good news if you have an electric car.
You now have one more place to charge it in South Bend.
The new charging station is at the corner of Jefferson and Lafayette Boulevards.
It's the first station maintained by the city, and one of few in South Bend.
At today's unveiling ceremony, Mayor Pete Buttigieg drove a family member's electric car into the spot and plugged it in.
The Mayor says climate change is real, and the city wants to do what it can to be a part of the solution.
And he's encouraging more drivers to move in the same direction.
“People start to see and get to know that this is something that works, something that's workable. Workable for people's lives. And anytime you bring that in to people's conscientiousness when they see it more, they are more likely to buy the car, says electric car owner John Horton.
If you're thinking about getting an electric car, you can test drive one on Friday May 4th.
Test drives will be from 5 to 8 p.m. next to the Gridiron on South Michigan.
